What a beauty! Tautara is featured in many maori lkegends in which they are held as ariki (God forms). Tuatara are regarded as the messengers of Whiro, the god of death and disaster, and Māori women are forbidden to eat them!
Weird, but then again, they've been in the planet for over 200 million years so kudos to them for putting up for that long!
